Good Week/Bad Week in Branding

Good Week: Dollar Shave Club – The subscription men’s grooming-product outfit added a bunch of zeroes (nine to be exact) when was acquired by Unilever for $1B, and the new parent company – itself one of the world’s largest brand houses – intends to keep both the popular brand and it’s CEO Michael Dubin, the clean-shaven guy talking to us in those great commercials.

Better Week: NBAIn a nod to the growing diversity of its fan base, the league makes good on an earlier promise and pulls its all-star game from Charlotte in protest over North Carolina’s “bathroom law” (House Bill 2). Given the opportunity to “do the right thing,” sports leagues generally fumble, so kudos to Commissioner Adam Silver and “the Association.”

Bad Week: Fox - In what should have been the righty-TV network's biggest ratings week in years, the resignation/ouster of its founder over charges of serial sexual harassment throws the organization into turmoil (and back under the day-to-day control of Rupert Murdock and sons... which is the same thing).
